About this checklist
A royalty statement has dozens of numbers, a handful of abbreviations nobody explains, and a total at the bottom. What it doesn't tell you is whether that total is right.
Most owners never check. The deposit looks about like last month's, so they move on. That's how a wrong decimal runs for six years. Operators pay thousands of owners, and mistakes happen. They don't usually happen in your favor.
You don't need to be an accountant. You need to read the statement, check one number, and keep a simple log. This kit shows you how.
What's inside
A labeled sample statement that walks through each column, from production month to owner net. A plain-English key to the codes operators use (ORRI, NRI, GATH, SUSP, PPA, and the rest). A decimal worksheet for up to three wells, including multi-section horizontal wells. A one-month example of where a dollar of gross value goes, with a blank version for your own numbers.
Then the working pages: a 24-month payment tracker, a deduction check that compares Oklahoma and Texas rules against your lease's royalty clause, a red-flags checklist, questions to send the operator with a log for their answers, and a list of what to keep in your royalty file and for how long.
Who it's for
Texas and Oklahoma mineral owners who get royalty checks and have never been quite sure they're right. Also heirs who just inherited an interest and a stack of statements, and anyone whose checks shrank without anybody telling them why.
How it works
Download the PDF right after checkout. Gather your last 12 to 24 statements, your division orders, and your lease. Give it about an hour the first time and ten minutes a month after that.
The worksheets are fillable. Adobe Acrobat Reader (free) works best. Some browser PDF viewers don't keep what you type, so save the file after you fill it in. You can also print it and use a pen.
